First solar power plant in county in service
FPL introduced Miami-Dade County’s first-ever solar power plant on last Tuesday to about 200 students and offcials. The power plant has more than 300,000 solar panels and is now powering the Miami-Dade grid.
To celebrate, Florida International University students, Mayor Carlos Gimenez, Florida Memorial University Chorale, and students from across Miami-Dade, including from Mast Academy and Miami Union Academy, gathered to celebrate at a farmer’s market event at the FPL Miami-Dade Solar Energy Center’s solar sanctuary.
The utility said it bring 30 million solar panels to Florida by 2030 as part of its 30-by-30 plan The company started its first-ever solar initiative in Miami-Dade in 1984.
Dubbed FPL Miami-Dade Solar Energy Center, plat is located at 18355 SW 136th St., off of the intersection of Krome and SW 136th St., in Miami.
